Link’s Awakening Amiibo is Very Cute, Functionality Detailed

Shadow Link comes to The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening courtesy of this adorable amiibo.

At the end of The Legends of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Nintendo Treehouse stream, a new Link amiibo based on the design from the upcoming remake was formally revealed and it’s pretty adorable.

Exemplifying the cutesy design from Link’s Awakening, the new Link amiibo looks just like his model from the game. On the livestream, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma echoes this notion. “So. this might be the first amiibo where Link looks exactly like he’s taken out of the game,” Aonuma excitedly expresses. It also looks like it is glossier than most of the amiibo before it. You can get a great look of the new amiibo thanks to this tweet from Nintendo of America:

The new Link amiibo will also add a specific “plus effect” to the new Chamber Dungeon in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. By using the amiibo, you’ll be able to add Shadow Link to any given room. Unlike other mini-bosses, Shadow Link will actually follow you around the dungeon until defeated.

For reference, the Chamber Dungeon is a new area in the game (where the camera shop used to be in the DX version) where you’ll meet Dampé from Ocarina of Time. When you talk to him, you’ll be able to enter the Chamber Dungeon mode which allows you to create your own dungeons with chambers you’ll unlock as you play the game. Beating these dungeons will earn you rewards.

It was also confirmed that every The Legend of Zelda amiibo, as well as the Smash Bros. amiibos based on Zelda characters will be compatible with The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. However, those details were not unveiled.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is set to launch on September 20, 2019. It was also revealed that a “Dreamer Edition” will be available when it releases, which comes with an artbook for the game.
