Captain Marvel Star Brie Larson Would Like to Play Samus in a Metroid Movie

Brie Larson is quickly rising in popularity, with that popularity likely coming to a head when she portrays Captain Marvel in her own standalone film next March as well as the still untitled fourth Avengers film next May. That being said, Captain Marvel doesn’t seem to be only badass sci-fi character Brie Larson would be interested in playing; Samus Aran from Nintendo’s Metroid series also takes that honor.

Her interest in a potential Samus Aran role has become known over the past couple days on social media. Things began on Halloween when Brie Larson posted pictures of herself dressed up as Zero Suit Samus to her Instagram, like the one below:

Following that Instagram post, Twitter user @SimonHernandez jokingly asked Brie Larson today on Twitter if those Halloween pictures were the closest we’d ever get to a Metroid movie starring her. She actually responded, showing interest in this hypothetical role and movie:

While there isn’t any Metroid movie in the works that we know of, I still think it’d be cool for Brie Larson to star in one. She’d definitely be fitting for the role, and she is already showing her sci-fi acting chops in next year’s Captain Marvel. Actor wishes like this have been fulfilled before as well, as Henry Cavill voiced his interest in playing Geralt of Rivia to IGN before he was officially cast by Netflix.

Film adoptions do seem to be on Nintendo’s docket though, as they are currently working on an animated Super Mario Bros. movie with Despicable Me animation studio Illumination Entertainment. While that movie is still without a release date and is shrouded in mystery, it’s success might spark interest from Nintendo to adapt their other franchises like Metroid to film.

As for Metroid’s status as a game series, its looking healthier than it has in a long time. After a long dry period without any new titles following Metroid: Other M, the series has made a resurgence over the past couple of years with Metroid Prime: Federation Force and Metroid: Samus Returns for 3DS. Metroid Prime 4 is also in development for Nintendo Switch, but we haven’t heard anything about it since its initial announcement at E3 2017.

If Nintendo ever does decide to make a Metroid movie, DualShockers will be sure to let you know about it. If this has you itching to play a Metroid game, you can pick Metroid Prime: Federation Force and Metroid: Samus Returns up on Amazon.
